ABOUT SHRI

Shri is the proud father, husband and grandfather, who was born in a small town in southern India. Shri is also a Ph.D scientist, an author, a former Michigan democratic gubernatorial candidate,  a retired small business owner, and a current resident of Detroit Michigan.

At the age of 24, after achieving an B.S degree in Chemistry (Karnatak University) and an M.S. degree in chemistry (Bombay University), Shri came to America in 1979 with nothing, but a small blue suitcase in hand and $20 in his pocket. Shri answered a calling to become a better person and one day work for social justice in America, the seeds of which were sown after experiencing family struggles with severe poverty and injustice in his native land and as a youth, influenced by the remarkable relationship between Dr. Martin Luther King and Mohandas K. Gandhi, who was a source of inspiration for Dr. King in pushing forward the Civil Rights Movement in America.

Less than a decade after landing in Ohio, Shri became a proud citizen of the United States in 1988. He developed his own personal formula for success and achieved a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Akron in 1982. Shri was also a post-doctoral research scholar at the University of Michigan from 1982-1984. All of this was in preparation for a special calling to serve, but Shri has to first take up a job as a chemist and later build small businesses creating hundreds of jobs.

In 1990, Shri purchased a failing small business that had three employees. Shri grew that business into a pharmaceutical and chemical research services company of international reputation with 450 employees. Shri’s companies have developed and invented many medicine formulations that everyday save human and animal lives. In 2010, Shri started a small chemical and pharmaceutical research services company in Michigan, which in 2016 grew to about 50 employees. Shri is a proven jobs creator and understands how to build teams to grow successful businesses.

In August 2018, Shri made a historic run in the Democratic Primary as the first Indian-American in Michigan to pursue the office of governor in his home state.  Shri won more than 200,000 votes across Michigan or 18 percent of the votes in the Democratic gubernatorial primary, but even more significantly, Shri won the city of Detroit, Shri’s story as a tough fighter for the People connected with Detroit voters who cast ballots for him 37,000 times—5,000 of which were right inside Michigan’s third state House District that rests entirely in the city of Detroit and now features an open seat for the office of State Representative in 2020.

Shri has been on the front lines with the Fight for $15 Movement because Shri worked minimum wage jobs through school to make ends meet and he knows how important it is for families to have opportunities to earn a living wage in Michigan and not have to work two and three jobs in the process.

When families get to know Shri, they recognize that he has the knowledge, the people skills and the endurance to work tirelessly for real change in Michigan by setting policy that works for the people to improve quality of life for all..

Shri has overcome major obstacles. Shri listens. Shri understands and he will make sure people are taken care of, no matter how big the issues are because Shri’s up for the challenge.

This is what has always set Shri apart from his competitors. He knows how to fight, he has real solutions for Michigan and Shri knows how to take action.
